Y12 A level geography – local place study
Year 12 geography students have been investigating the changing geography of the Cookridge and Holt Park local area as part of their work in the ‘Changing Places’ unit.
Students have had the opportunity to use a wide range of data sources including historic maps, GIS sources, census data and artistic representations. They have investigated changes to the local social and economic geography over the past 3 centuries.
Students have particularly enjoyed using historic maps, photos and records to see how the local area has grown from being a largely rural agricultural area to becoming a suburb of the growing city of Leeds.
Y12s are looking forward to our residential fieldwork in June where part of the trip will be used to investigate Whitby as a contrasting ‘distant place’ as part of the investigation. Hopefully the weather will allow the students to enjoy some summer sunshine by the sea too! Well done Y12!
