Y11 Celebrate Brilliant Results!

It’s been fantastic to see our Year 11 students celebrating success at RTS this morning as they collected their GCSE and Vocational results. This brilliant year group have seen their hard work rewarded with excellent and well-deserved grades, the culmination of 2 years serious hard work in the middle of a pandemic!

While it’s always fantastic to see students celebrate their exam results, this year’s cohort deserve particular praise for having coped so well with the extraordinary circumstances they found themselves in. Having had Year 10 severely disrupted by Covid, this resilient group then faced the announcement that exams would not go ahead as planned. Although to some this might sound like a relief, it simply increased the pressure on students to provide evidence of the grades they were capable of through a series of carefully planned assessments, all rigorously moderated and often in collaboration with other schools.

Every single grade has been earned and our students have every right to be proud of their considerable achievements. It’s really encouraging to see so many of our students staying on to study at the Ralph Thoresby Sixth Form, our excellent post-16 provision which, in partnership with Lawnswood School and the Ultimate Football Coaching Academy, offers a broad and exciting curriculum while retaining the ‘family’ feel and outstanding pastoral care of a relatively small Sixth Form.

A number of outstanding individual performances include Reece Butler (pictured, 9 grade 9s), Eleanor Bottrell (8 grade 9s) and Berengaria Bottrell (8 grade 9s and a Distinction*) who between them achieved 25 of the highest possible grades (grade 9)! But this was a day of brilliant performances across the year group and we are working with a number of students to ensure that 100% continue their education at an exciting destination.

Congratulations to the students themselves and everyone involved behind the scenes (staff, family, friends). Another proud day for everyone associated with these talented young people and Ralph Thoresby School.
