Revise Wise – Drama
How will I know the specific areas I need to work on and how do I avoid revising what I already know?
The Drama units are all separate. Once you have completed your Devising coursework and performed your piece, the unit will be finished. If you need to, you are allowed to resubmit the work once, but your teacher will guide you on this.
The scripted unit is the performance of two different excerpts of script – you will work on this in lessons, but at home, it is important to learn your lines, read the whole play so that you fully understand the character, and develop your characterisation. Once you have performed, the unit will be finished.
The final assessment is the written examination, for which you will need to read and re-read ‘DNA’ and revise your live theatre notes (see revision tips below).
What is the best way to revise for Edexcel GCSE Drama?
• Read and re-read play scripts, and learn your lines in good time so that you can focus on vocal and physical expression and character interpretation
• Learn the vocabulary list (below) so that you’re always using key drama terminology in your written work
• In writing, use the LINK-WHAT-WHY structure: LINK to a quote or key moment, explain WHAT you did (or will do) using drama language, and, in detail, explain WHY – what do / did you want the audience to think, feel or understand?
• Meet all deadlines set by your teacher so you can tick off your tasks as you move through the course
• Read and re-read the ‘DNA’ set text script and use the revision guide and work set by your teacher to complete practice questions. Make sure you’re using different extracts from the play, and focusing on different drama elements (lighting, set, acting, costume, sound…)
• See as much live theatre as possible – take advantage of department trips, and have a look at what plays are on at our local theatres
