Ralph Thoresby TCT Name Team for Potentially Historic National Final
Ralph Thoresby TCT (Table Cricket Team) have named a side of 6 players to compete at the third and final table cricket tournament of the Season, made up of players aged 12-18.
The team qualified after a domminant performance, that saw the team break their all-time scoring record twice, at Emerald Headingley Stadium last month. A win in this year’s final, which takes place on the 7th of June at Lords cricket ground, would see the side be crowned only the second ever team to have won the tournament 3 times and one of the few sides to have retained the trophy after winning in the previous year. As well as this, with a win, 5 players from the entire squad would become the most decorated individuals in the sports history.
Only 6 players were available for selection though, which is the minimum team size required, meaning the side will attend the final with no substitutes. Most noticeably the schools longest serving player, and former captain, Lewis Bird (Year 13) will not be attending what would have been his last ever game of table cricket, as currently there are no further playing opportunities for players older than 18. Alex Mitchell (Year 13) will also play his last game after four and half years of representing the side, due to his age. Dominic Nowland (Year 11) was also unavailable for selection and so has played his last game of Table Cricket for the team, as he departs the school at the end of this term.
A win in the final who mark the pinnacle of a truly amazing journey for the team, who in the space of just 10 years have gone from struggling to qualify for the Lords final to being one of the most memorable teams in the sports history.
