Personal Development at Ralph Thoresby
The intent of our Personal Development curriculum is to encourage our students to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society, who understand how they are developing personally and socially, and give them the confidence to tackle many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up. We provide opportunities for them to learn about rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society, and to prepare them to be a global citizen now and in their future roles within a global community.
We aim to deliver a curriculum that meets the needs of our students. One that promotes the spiritual, moral, social, cultural, emotional and physical development and prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences for later life. This will lead to them being able to make informed decisions, and develop healthy relationships, both now and in the future.
The Personal Development Curriculum at RTS covers the following areas:
· Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship education
· Relationships and Sex Education
· Fundamental British Values
· Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural education
· Careers education
· Extra-curricular
Our school mission statement ‘Ambition and Achievement for all’ and our RALPH values embodies our attitude and intentions towards the importance of the development of all aspects of the Personal Development curriculum. All our pupils are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities and experiences across and beyond the curriculum, contributing fully to the life of the school and the wider community. In doing so, pupils learn to recognise their own worth, develop a sense of their own identity and the ability to take their place in the community as well as respect for, and working with, others.
