ECT and ITT Provision

At Ralph Thoresby, we want to nurture a committed and prepared cohort of future teachers who will contribute to not only to our school , but to the profession as a whole.

We have partnered with the Red Kite Teaching Alliance to deliver our ITT and ECT provision. Red Kite is an Ofsted Outstanding Provider of school-based teacher training in North and West Yorkshire. They work in partnership with schools across the region, as well as the University of Leeds, to train new teachers who are confident in the classroom and are sought after by future employers as accomplished practitioners.

ECTs study pedagogy online with UCL Extend and benefit from weekly mentor meetings and feedback from their designated ECT mentor. If you join our school as an ECT, you will benefit from a strong package of pedagogical and pastoral support designed to help you navigate your own professional development and the challenges of early career teaching.

We host a number of Red Kite trainees across the year, many of whom go on to work in regional Red Kite schools. These ITT’s benefit from an after-school training system that is tailored to their needs and draws upon the insights of experienced members of staff. These training sessions are also open to other members of staff as optional CPD. In 2024, as part of our Quality Assurance, Red Kite highlighted that ‘The provision for ITT’s and ECT’s within Ralph Thoresby is robust and well thought out’. We also provide our ITTs & ECTs with the opportunity to observe good practice across the school and encourage them to become involved in school life through the Extra Curricular Activities that we run during and after school.
