An article by Ruqayah about Year 9 GCSE option Art

“During the first term of GCSE Art, I have been perfecting my research skills through studying Japanese Masks, the work of Hush, a contemporary street artist and Picasso; creating research booklets including observational drawings.

GCSE Art is a great example of a creative subject. I considered choosing this subject in year 8 because Art is one of my favourite hobbies. I also chose GCSE Art because it is a required qualification that I need to enter the university I would like to attend. By practising and developing my skills before entering 6th form and choosing Art again, at A Level, I hope to get a grasp of what is required from the coursework. So that I can be ready prepared for A Level Art.

I am grateful to have started GCSE Art in year 9 since that means that I am able to get an extra year of practise and development. Some schools only start their GCSE’s in year 10 so I am extremely thankful to begin early!

Art is something I have been interested in for a long time and would like to keep practising it in my future career. My favourite part about Art is that it applies to many different forms like photography, music and technology etc…”
